Automatic collision notification systems such as eCall are the crucial link between injured road users and the care that they need. They are also a critical interface between the technologies and skills of automotive engineers and of public safety communities. As founder and director of CAVT Ltd, Alan is a pro-bono member of ISO TS4654 Advanced Automatic Collision Notification and other expert groups related to collision investigation and transfer to testing of cash avoidance technology, and a member of several industry working groups and committees.

Alan has developed his holistic approach to this function through 50 years of automotive industry R&D, covering everything from on-the-scene pedestrian collision investigation to regulations for safer vehicle fronts, from manufacturing processes and materials to collision avoidance, injury biomechanics and crash dummy design, to fire & rescue procedures for battery-electric and hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles, working on over 166 models of vehicle from Volvo, GM, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari, Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Leyland, Ford, Nissan, Renault, and others.
