Read BAPCO CEO's latest blog, providing exciting insights and updates for what to expect at BAPCO 2018. Join us for 2 busy days of updates, business & networking!

"It’s been a while since I wrote a piece on this blog. I have been ‘reminded’ by many people that I need to do it. If I wait for the right moment, that time when there is a pause, it’ll never happen because we are always working on the next thing.

Our new website has been live for a couple of months now. As a member you’ll have received an email asking you to update your Areas of Interest in your My Account section. This helps to tailor how the website works for you. It means as the content and features increase, you get notifications about the news you want rather than for every post or change to the site. Of course, if you want to hear about everything, we don’t mind. It’s all about choice and making the site work for you. You can let us know what you like or what could be changed via the Support email address at any time.

One of the important benefits of BAPCO membership for many people is our events and the free attendance for members. 2017 was a very successful year with three excellent events, including our first in Scotland for some time. We are already planning 2018 with dates and venues booked. Full details are on the Events page of the website where you will also find access to previous event presentations thanks to our hard working colleagues. Make sure you get the dates in your diaries and plan your attendance.

Our next event is our Annual Conference and Exhibition which takes place at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry on the 20th and 21st March. Your Executive Committee held their most recent meeting there in order to view the facilities as well as dealing with the important business of running BAPCO. We received a full update from our event partners on all aspects of the planning and preparation. Everything is almost in place for a fantastic two days. Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can do all of it in one.

Once again we will be providing two conference tracks of presentations throughout both days of the event. This is in addition to the exhibition as well as the Technology Showcase Theatre and the Control Room Arena.

We are very grateful to Gordon Shipley for being our keynote speaker on 20th March. Gordon is well known as a Director in the Home Office’s Crime, Police and Fire Group responsible for the ESMCP. As ever this will be an interesting time for the programme and we look forward to hearing the latest update from Gordon.

Day 2, the 21st March, will be opened with a session from Samsung on innovations in Public Safety communications and reference to their work for the Winter Olympics 2018. We are pleased to welcome Samsung to our event given their new relationship to the ESMCP.

There are a host of other interesting presentations throughout the two days, including case studies into the Smiler Incident at Alton Towers and the Grenfell Fire from London Fire Brigade’s DAC Wayne Brown.

Don’t forget our Gala Dinner, supported by our event partner Motorola Solutions. As well as good food and entertainment, we will be joined by the Royal British Legion and one of their inspirational speakers. We are really pleased to have as our after dinner speaker Wasps, England and British Lion forward James Haskell.

It’s a packed two days. Make sure you register for the event and book your places for the sessions as some are sure to be oversubscribed.

My next task is to finish reviewing the nominations for the Control Room Awards 2018 which our Platinum Member APD are running. I'm honoured to be a part of the judging panel on behalf of BAPCO. I’ve been humbled by the amount and the standard of the nominations. It's a difficult task choosing some as better than others. Well done to everybody involved."
